An implant for implantation into bone tissue includes an elongated body having an outer surface. The outer surface has at least one thread. The thread makes a number of turns around the body of the implant and includes a root, a flank and a crest. The root and a segment of the flank have a roughened portion compared to the crest. A method of forming an implant having a threaded outer surface including a root, a flank, and a crest includes treating the threaded outer surface at only the root and a portion of the flank while the crest remains untreated.

A robotic system includes a base, a grounding arm, a working arm, and one or more sensors. The grounding arm extends from the base and is configured to be coupled to a fixed structure within the mouth of the patient for establishing an origin for the robotic system. The working arm extends from the base and is configured to be coupled with one or more tool for use during an installation of a dental implant in the mouth. The one or more sensors are for monitoring positions of the grounding arm and/or the working arm and to generate positional data that is used to create a post-operative virtual three-dimensional model of at least a portion of the mouth of the patient.

The present disclosure is directed to a method and system that receives an intra-oral scanned dataset comprising adjacent first and second scan patches, the adjacent first and second scan patches comprising scanned images of adjacent portions of a depth registration tool engaging first and second dental fixtures positioned on first and second segments, respectively, of a dental arch area and overlaying a soft tissue, homogeneous, cross-arch connecting area between the first and second segments, the first and second scan patches having different background images on the depth registration tool, identifies a raised feature common to the first and second scan patches, and aligns, based on the identified at least one raised feature, the first and second scan patches to form a composite digital image.

A method of providing an accurate three-dimensional scan of a dental arch area is disclosed. The arch area has two segments and a connecting area between the two segments. The connecting area has homogeneous features. A connecting-geometry tool with at least one definable feature is affixed to the arch area. The definable feature overlays at least part of the connecting area. The arch area is scanned to produce a scanned dataset of the arch area. The definable feature of the connecting-geometry tool on the connection area is determined based on the scanned dataset. After correcting the scanned dataset for errors in the select subset of frames due to skew or distortion, the dimensions of the arch area are determined based on the data relating to the definable features from the corrected scanned dataset.

A method of manufacturing a permanent prosthesis for attachment to a dental implant installed in a mouth of a patient includes scanning a patient specific temporary prosthesis (PSTP) to obtain scan data. The PSTP is attached to the dental implant in the mouth of the patient. Gingival tissue surrounding the PSTP is permitted to heal in the mouth of the patient. In response to aesthetics of the healed gingival tissue surrounding the PSTP in the mouth of the patient not being acceptable, the PSTP is physically modified by (i) removing material from the PSTP, (ii) adding material to the PSTP, or (iii) both. The modified PSTP is scanned and a permanent prosthesis is fabricated as a replica of the modified PSTP using scan data generated from the scan of the modified PSTP.

Dental restoration technologies include dental prosthesis components such as implants, abutments, crowns, and the like that are mapped to a patient's mouth prior to and during installation. Fabricating at least a portion of one or more components of the dental prosthesis using a fully calibrated and characterized fabricator can reduce sources of error that affect the success of fabrication and installation processes. The components of the dental prosthesis are represented by library files that are tailored to reflect particular characteristics of the components of the prosthesis to be fabricated, the fabricator, the material used during fabrication, and/or the environment surrounding the fabricator. The library files may be determined based on an acquired scan of the patient and/or based on inputs received from a user during the design process. The library files may be generated using virtual modeling techniques, and/or based on a component design that falls within pre-determined parameters.

An implant system and a method of forming the implant system including an implant to be implanted into living bone. The implant includes titanium. The implant includes a first surface geometry on a first portion of a surface of the implant and a second surface geometry on a second portion of the surface of the implant. The first surface geometry includes at least a submicron topography including tube-like structures and the second surface geometry includes a first micro-scale topography, a second micro-scale topography superimposed on the first topography, and a submicron topography superimposed on the first and second micro-scale topographies, the submicron topography including the tube-like structures.

A method and a device for the simplified inspection of the compatibility of the positions of master tubes in a surgical guides with respect to the positions in a predetermined plan in a computer model. For example, during virtual planning, the virtual surgical guide includes master tubes having an axis that is the axis (e.g., an installation axis) along which a dental implant will be installed. The virtual surgical guide can be manufactured, e.g., by substrative methods and additive methods. As discussed herein, the accuracy of the physical surgical guide can be checked physically or virtually.

A dental implant system including an implant and an abutment is disclosed. The implant includes a generally cylindrical body, a central axis, a distal end for anchoring in a patient's bone and a proximal end opposing the distal end. The proximal end includes a roughened lateralized surface that surrounds an abutment-engaging region. The lateralized surface is disposed at a negative slope relative to the central axis. The abutment includes an upper portion for supporting a tooth-like prosthesis and a lower portion for engaging the abutment-engaging region of the dental implant. The diameter of the lower portion of the abutment is smaller than the diameter of the implant at its proximal end. The lower portion includes a first surface with a soft-tissue enhancing material. The first surface and the lateralized surface defining a circumferentially extending recess having a V-shaped cross-section for receiving and attachment to the soft tissue.
