A Pilates chair exercise apparatus has a frame configured to rest on a horizontal surface, an inverted Y shaped seat support member fastened to an upper portion of the frame, a seat fastened to an upper end of the seat support, and a pair of parallel arms each having a proximal end fastened to the frame and a foot support fastened to a distal end of the arm, wherein each arm is biased away from the frame. A rotary torque unit mounted to the frame beneath the seat biases each of the arms. The rotary torque unit includes a rotary spring cassette that carries a plurality of flat coil springs each having only one end fastened to an axle at one end of one of the arms. Combinations of the springs in the spring cassette may be user selected without the user leaving the seat of the chair exercise apparatus.

A Pilates chair exercise apparatus has a frame configured to rest on a horizontal surface, an inverted Y shaped seat support member fastened to an upper portion of the frame, a seat fastened to an upper end of the seat support, and a pair of parallel arms each having a proximal end fastened to the frame and a foot support fastened to a distal end of the arm, wherein each arm is biased away from the frame. A rotary torque unit mounted to the frame beneath the seat biases each of the arms. The rotary torque unit includes a rotary spring cassette that carries a plurality of flat coil springs each having only one end fastened to an axle at one end of one of the arms. Combinations of the springs in the spring cassette may be user selected without the user leaving the seat of the chair exercise apparatus.

A pair of hinged support post members is fastened to a mounting bracket captured between the seat and the upper end of the inverted Y shaped seat support and each is movable from a storage position below an upper surface of the seat to an operable position extending upward alongside the seat and each member is releasably captured in the operable position by a clamp formed between the short leg and its end portion of the mounting bracket.

A connected reformer exercise apparatus includes a frame for resting on a surface and a carriage for reciprocal movement back and forth on the frame between a head end and a foot end of the frame. The apparatus includes a foot bar near the foot end of the frame and a pair of arm cord risers at the head end. The connected reformer has a plurality of force sensors on the carriage, the arm cord risers, and the foot bar for detecting forces exerted by a user during exercise and a controller/processor communicating with the plurality of force sensors and providing signals to a display for communicating sensed information to a user of the exercise apparatus.

A reformer exercise apparatus includes a frame having a head end member, a foot end member and a pair of parallel track members spacing the head end member from the foot end member of the frame, a carriage on the frame configured for movement back and forth between the head end member and the foot end member on the parallel track members, and one or more bias members fastened between the carriage and the foot end member of the frame for biasing the carriage toward the foot end member on the parallel track members The reformer has two spaced apart arm cord riser support tubes fastened to the head end member and an inverted U shaped trapeze tower fastened to the two spaced apart arm cord riser support tubes rather than the trapeze tower being directly fastened to the head end member the frame.
